  • Dr. Nielsen Donato: Exotic Pet Vet

Most animal clinics are full of fluffy dogs and slinky cats, maybe a few birds. But throw in a python, a turtle, and several other exotic pets, and that would be an average day for Dr. Nielsen Donato.

    Doctor to Wildlife

Donato is no ordinary veterinarian. He is a wildlife veterinarian, and exotic pet owners, hobbyists, and zookeepers seek him out so he can treat their unusual creatures.

As with all things, Donato’s love for creatures of all kinds began in childhood. “My dad was not a vet, but a general surgeon. He was very fond of animals, and he built a mini-zoo in our family resort. This was my introduction to the world of exotic animals. We had deer and porcupines. I took care of rabbits and pigeons.”

After graduating from UP-Los Baños in 2000, Dr. Marga worked at the Westchester djur Hospital in New York and Maryland Pet Hospital in Bethesda. Two years later, she flew back to Manila and became the ledare Veterinarian of the Avilon Zoo in Montalban, Rizal. Since opening VIP in 2003, she became our alternative medicin specialist, incorporating bioenergy therapy, reiki, acupressure, massage and all-natural, holistic treatments in her regular practice, leading her to spear-head VIP Pet Hotel and hälsovård Center in 2010.

Embracing a fondness for the farm life, she divides her time being a doting mother to three growing kids, while fervently pursuing opportunities to combine her other two passions: children with special needs and the use of therapeutic interaction with pets, particularly horses and dogs.

Dr. Nielsen Donato and His True Heart for Animals

“What makes you wake up early in the morning?” asks veterinarian Dr. Nielsen Donato while strolling through his animal sanctuary.

“It’s not work. It’s something that you’re excited about.”

When people think of veterinarians, they usually think of them tending to household pets, like cats and dogs. But Doc Nielsen isn’t a regular vet. He’s the managing partner and chief surgeon at Vets In Practice (VIP), which caters to not-your-usual pets, and he also has a background in Avian and Exotic Medicine.

But what makes him so special is his unbridled care for virtually any kind of animal, be it crawling, flying, galloping, or slithering.

Doc Nielsen’s passion started when he was around three years old. One of his favorite childhood memories was being excited about going to church just so he could see the yellow chicks and ducklings being sold by vendors outside.

Today, Doc Nielsen helps run the L
