Chioma Jesus got the name 'Chioma Jesus' from the song 'Chioma' and decided to add Jesus to it. It is also the name of her debut album.

Chioma Jesus was born Amaka Ebizie on February 12, 1972, in Lagos but hails from Imo state. She lost her father and mother (Nze Euzebius Chukwumaeze Ebizie and Lolo Dorathy Ebizie) at a tender age, leaving seven children with her as the eldest among them. She started singing at the young age of 9 in her church choir. Her pastor helped her develop her singing talent. However, she officially started her singing career at the Scripture Union Fellowship many years ago as a soloist.
