Rivermayas roots came from a band named Xaga consisting of Jesse Gonzales on vocals, Kenneth Ilagan on guitars, Nathan Azarcon on bass guitar, Rome Velayo on drums, and Rico Blanco on keyboards and backing vocals. The band was managed by Lizza Nakpil and director Chito S. Roño. In the process of grueling practice sessions, Ilagan was replaced with Perf de Castro; Azarcons childhood friend, Mark Escueta, to replace Velayo, as well as former classmate Mañalac to replace Gonzales. With Mañalac as frontman, the band members themselves decided to disband Xaga and form the band Rivermaya. They started putting together original songs like Ulan, , and Awit ng Kabataan in demo form for prospective recording compani

The Voice of the Philippines is a Philippine television reality singing competition that aired on ABS-CBN, and is based on the Dutch television series The Voice of Holland.[2][3][4][5] The show premiered on June 15, and was hosted by Toni Gonzaga and Robi Domingo.[6][7][8]Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo Mañalac, Lea Salonga, and serve as the four coaches and the judging panel of the show.[9][10][11][12]
