    For that blind first date, a half-century ago, the young doctor, Phillip Frost, showed up at Patricia Orr’s family house in suburban New York, with an unusual gift: a miniature mushroom garden.

    In the 50 years since, Frost, the son of a shoe store owner, has gone on to amass a fortune of $2.4 billion, according to Forbes magazine, becoming the 188th wealthiest man in the United States by developing and selling pharmaceutical companies. Along the way, he and Patricia have become major philanthropists in Miami-Dade County and they’ve signed a pledge to give away at least $1 billion more.

    When Mette Tommerup, one of three artists in the Patrica & Phillip Frost Art Museum-FIU’s summer exhibition, was creating her site-specific installation “Like the Body of a Flower,” she says she wanted the viewer to feel as if they were “walking through a field of wild flowers with lots and lots of colors.”  The Danish-American artist, who works out of Coconut Grove and Little Havana, created four pieces that make up the installation, each named using the line from one of Pulitz

    Phillip Frost[1] (born c. 1936) is an American entrepreneur.[2]

    Early life and education

    Frost was born into an observantJewish family[3] in the United States. He has two elder brothers, who are 15 and 16 years older than him respectively. Both brothers fought in World War II, one in the Air Force and one in the Army. At 13, he got his first job, working in a local hardware shop after school.[4] Frost earned a B.A. in French literature from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1957. He received an M.D. degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in 1961 and attended the University of Paris, from 1955 to 1956.
