Paul Cézanne and the Making of Modern Art History
Introduction
This dissertation is about both Paul Cézanne (1839Cézanne ( -1906 and how art history's methodology and history have determined the understanding of his art. By including art history's methodology within the field of research, this dissertation accomplishes two important intellectual and political tasks. It opens new perspectives for the study of Cézanne's career and art that have been foreclosed by the most basic presuppositions that structure the discipline's theoretical foundations, while addressing fundamental issues about the institutionalization of art history itself as a discipline.

Early Life
Cézanne was born on January 19, 1839, in Aix-en-Provence (also known as Aix), France. His father, Philippe Auguste, was the co-founder of a banking firm that prospered throughout the artist's life, affording him financial säkerhet that was unavailable to most of his contemporaries and eventually resulting in a large inheritance. Valentin Rusin wurde 1958 in der Ukraine geboren. Er studierte von 1972-1976 an der Fachschule für Kunst in Voroschilovgrad und dann von 1979-1984 an der Akademie für Kunst und Design in Charkov/Ukraine. Dieses Studium schloß Valentin Rusin 1984 erfolgreich mit dem Diplom im Fach „Malerei“ ab.
Danach arbeietete Valentin Rusin als Auftragskünstler im Bereichen Freskas, Glasmalerei und Mosaiken. Gleichzeitig malte er und nahm er von 1986-1994 an Gemeinschaftsausstellungen in Moskau, Kiev und Charkov teil.
1992 fand die erste Ausstellung im Westen in Nürnberg statt. Seit 1994 lebt und arbeitet Valentin Rusin in Deutschland. Von 1999 bis 2002 war er Mitglied des Deutschen Künstlerbundes.
