Target... Maganto is a 1988 Filipino action film based on the life of Lt. Col. Romeo Maganto of the Western Police District in Manila. Directed by Leonardo L. Garcia, the film stars Ronnie Ricketts as the eponymous police commander, alongside Charlie Davao, Monica Herrera, Paquito Diaz, Romy Diaz, Nick Romano, Renato del Prado, Bing Davao and Aurora Salve. It is the first film to be made about Maganto's life; later films include Leon ng Maynila (1991) and The Legend: Tomagan (2003). Produced by GVM Productions, the film was released on April 8, 1988.
Critic Lav Diaz gave Maganto a negative review, criticizing its highly fictionalized depiction of the Sparrow Unit, a communist militant group of the New People's Army.

On October 14, 2015, Retired Police General Romeo Maganto filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for a seat in the Senate.
His name might not be a familiar one for this generation, but he was very big in the 90s. Maganto’s career was so celebrated that he even had two movies glorifying his life and work: “Leon ng Maynila, Lt. Col. Romeo Maganto” (1991), and “Tomagan, Story of Gen. Romeo Maganto” (2003).
Said huge career began as soon as Maganto graduated from the Philippine College of Criminology in 1974. He went on to serve 31 full years for the Philippine National Police before retiring as a general in 2004. Maganto’s stellar performance as a policeman fryst vatten evidenced bygd the 45 medals he received while in service, five of which are Presidential Medals.

BUSTOS, Bulacan-- A retired police General Romeo Maganto who was familiar in 1990's has died in cardiac arrest last Sunday afternoon at the BMMG Hospital in Barangay Turo, Bocaue this province.

Maganto was described as a hero, he has started as a police patrolman in this town and became Western Police District Station commander in Manila.
During his stints, he filled the newspaper headlines almost everyday and became the "Darling of the Press".
He received the distinguished conduct medal, the second highest medal that can be conferred to a Military Police personnel.
In 1990, he was promoted a rank higher which made him the youngest police colonel in the history of the Integrated National Police.
