Barack and Michelle Obama have praised the filmmakers behind American Factory after the movie helped their production company win its first Oscar last night.
The film, about the decline of manufacturing jobs in the industrial Midwest, picked up the golden statue for best feature-length documentary on Sunday.
American Factory, which was released on Netflix, showed how employees at a former General Motors plant in Moraine, just outside Dayton, Ohio, suffered the impact of globalization following the closure of the glass manufacturing site in 2008.
The story following the plant after it was bought by a Chinese billionaire, was moving enough to catch the eye of none other than Barack and Michelle.
