    Catherine Linton (née Earnshaw)was a central character in Wuthering Heightsby Emily Brontë. She was the wife of Edgar Linton, and the mother of Cathy Linton, whom she died giving birth to.

    Early Life[]

    When Catherine is six, her father went on a journey to Liverpool, and brings back an orphan the family name Heathcliff. Catherine immediately became very close to Heathcliff, but her older brother, Hindley Earnshaw, tyrannised and bullied him, which upset her.

    After Mr. Earnshaw dies, Hindley became master of Wuthering Heights and degraded Heathcliff to a servant. He tried to keep Catherine and Heathcliff separate, but they become more 'heathen' as time g

    Heathcliff's love and heroine of the story although she dies part of the way through the book. Her character, both alive and dead, haunts Heathcliff. She is free-spirited and beautiful, but can also be spiteful, arrogant and childish. Growing up alongside Heathcliff, their love is more like that of twins than lovers, and she marries Edgar because of his position and breeding.
