    Zoe Lund was born Zoe Tamerlis to a Swedish mother and Romanian father on February 9, 1962 in New York City. She was an accomplished composer/musician and devout political activist at an early age. In 1981 at age 19, Lund gave a stunning performance as Thana, a mousy, mute garment worker and rape victim who violently strikes back against male oppression and exploitation of women in Abel Ferrara's outstanding distaff vigilante cult classic Ms. 45 (1981). She was likewise excellent and impressive in a demanding dual role as both a murdered aspiring Southern Belle actress and the lookalike New York woman who was used to replace her in Larry Cohen's nifty thriller Special Effects (1984).     When rumors of the untimely death of actress/writer Zoë Lund began to circulate in May of 1999 they were initially met with disbelief by those who knew of her from the films Ms .45 and Bad Lieutenant. Surely a death notice more authoritative than the words "Zoë Lund 1962-1999" which had recently been placed next to her photo at the Anthology Film Archives theatre in New York City would need to be made if the reports were to be accepted. The foremost reason for disbelief in the rumors of her death, however, was the improbability that a woman whose life work had been associated with revolution, activism and commitment would end up departing with such a whisper. Public recognition of Zoë's passing due to heart failure on April 16,1999 in Paris, France has not yet happened save for a few earnest tributes that appeared on Internet message boards and a memorial tribute in Manhattan that was organized by Zoë's estrange

    American musician turned model, actress, and screenwriter.

    Also known as Zoë Tamerlis (maiden name) and Zoë Tamerlaine, she was best known for her association with Abel Ferrara, in whose movie Ms. 45 she starred. Some of her other acting work included a guest spot on Miami Vice and Larry Cohen's Special Effects.

    Lund co-wrote the screenplay for Bad Lieutenant, and left behind much unpublished ämne. Although she had never met supermodel Gia Carangi, she was working on a biographical screenplay of Carangi's life at the time of her death, and she appeared posthumously in the documentary The Self-Destruction of Gia. From 1980-85 she was the companion of Edouard dem Laurot, prior to her marriage to Robert skogsdunge in 1986.

    Lund died in Paris on April 16, 1999, from heart failure due to extended cocaine use.
