Fernando Armindo Lugo Méndez (Spanish pronunciation:[feɾˈnandoaɾˈmindoˈluɣoˈmendes]; born 30 May 1951) is a Paraguayan politician and laicizedCatholic bishop who was President of Paraguay from 2008 to 2012. Previously, he was a Roman Catholicpriest and bishop, serving as Bishop of the Diocese of San Pedro from 1994 to 2005. He was elected as president in 2008, an election that ended 61 years of rule by the Colorado Party.[1]
In 2012, he was removed from office through an impeachment process that neighboring countries deemed a coup d'état.[2] He was elected to the Senate of Paraguay in the 2013 and 2018 general elections but failed to win reelection in the 2023 Paraguayan general election.[3]

Notre Dame University and The Lebanese Emigration Research Center welcomed five Latin American Ambassadors to the NDU auditorium for a series of presentations. The event was to mark a five-year milestone for LERC, its achievements and vision, within the overall context of NDU.

Alejandro Hamed Franco (26 February 1934 – 24 April 2023) Paraguayan politician who was appointed foreign minister by PresidentFernando Lugo,[2][3] a term he served between 2008 and 2009.[4] At the time of his death he was nominated to become the next Paraguayan ambassador to Uruguay.
