    Clear and Gold Tower

    Clear and Gold Tower was commissioned from prominent American glass artist Dale Chihuly by the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum with funding from the Centennial Class of It was inspired by an earlier piece—the Palazzo Ducale Tower —which the artist made during his Chihuly Over Venice project. More than pieces of hand-blown glass shimmering with gold leaf comprise this remarkable work of art.

    Chihuly and his team created the Clear and Gold Tower for Mount Holyoke in response to the library’s neo-Renaissance courtyard designed in by Boston architect Graham Gund.     Dale Patrick Chihuly was born on September 20, , in Tacoma, Washington.[3] His parents were George and Viola Chihuly; his paternal grandfather was born in Slovakia.[3] In , his older brother and only sibling George died in a Navy aviation training accident in Pensacola, Florida.[4] In , Chihuly's father died of a heart attack at the age of [5][6]

    Chihuly had no interest in continuing his formal education after graduating from Woodrow efternamn High School in However, at his mother's urging, he enrolled at the College of Puget Sound.[6] A year later, he transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle to study interior design.     When my daughter mentioned that there's a blown glass exhibit that's getting a lot of attention at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, I thought that I could potentially do a post linking it to the blown glass creation, "Kiosk of the Night Owls" that adorns the entrance to the Palais Royal metro station in Paris.  After seeing Dale Chihuly's "Through the Looking Glass", I realize that he has taken the art of glass blowing to new heights, both figuratively and literally, and merits a post all of his own.  Enjoy!
