The Most Dangerous Game is a short story by American author Richard Connell, first published in in Collier's magazine. Also published as The Hounds of Zaroff, it is the story of Sanger Rainsford, a big-game hunter from New York who travels to the Amazon with the intent of killing jaguars. However, after falling overboard from his yacht, he swims to an island and encounters the Cossack, General Zaroff, a fellow hunter. To start with, the General is cordial to Rainsford, but over dinner he explains how the island is set up as a trap, and that he takes survivors captive and then hunts them for sport.
